Senior Capstone, TTU, Spring 2015: Desaparición y asimilación; Preservación y perpetuación

The most challenging part of this project? Knowing that as of yet, I cannot think in Spanish at as advanced of a level as this project really called for. Spanish sources, Spanish notes, Spanish everything. I never allowed myself to even brainstorm in English and although it was a wonderful exercise, it was frustrating.

It leaves me with a desire, however, to pursue this research and to continue improving my Spanish so as to continue this research in Spanish.

"Desaparición y asimilación; Preservación y perpetuaciónLos factores sociales y lingüísticos que determinaron la vida, la muerte y casi pérdida de las lenguas de los inmigrantes judíos a Argentina después del año 1889" is just the beginning for me. 

(Translation: "Disappearance and Assimilation; Preservation and Perpetuation: The Linguistic and Social Factors that Determined the Life, Death, and Near Loss of the Languages of the Argentine Jewish Immigrants after 1889.")

Directed Study, TTU, Fall 2014: Mobile Identity

Doing an honors directed study seemed like a good idea. And it was, in the end. But the journey was the most difficult I've had as an undergrad.

My research directors, Drs. Groundland and Barnard, challenged me to give 100% to this project, and expected no less. For the first time in college I was being graded against my potential instead of the rest of a class. It was indeed an eye-opening experience.

National Collegiate Honors Conference, TTU, 2014: The Sephardim: Changing Language and Identity since 1492

This semester I was accepted to present my research from last semester (A Print to Call Home) at a poster session. The overall experience was wonderful, and I met several scholars, professors, and students who shared a passion for Jewish studies, Jewish languages, and Sephardic topics. This poster allowed me to succinctly display the most important points of my research, including a timeline, my basic arguments, and my final conclusion.
